Getting ‘back to normal’ after cancer can be really daunting. Returning to school, changes in friendships and worrying about whether cancer will come back are just some of the things that might be going on for you. Canteen’s Places You’ll Go program is specially designed for young people who have finished cancer treatment. It’s an opportunity to connect with other young people who get what you’re going through, develop some coping strategies and have a lot of fun too!
Young people aged 12-17 who have finished their active cancer treatment (it’s OK to still be on long term or maintenance treatment).
Places You’ll Go is held in Sydney with Canteen covering all travel costs.
The next Places You’ll Go program is being held on 5-7 April 2024.
It’s a 3 day / 2 night program running from Friday to Sunday.
All Canteen programs are completely free to attend. Travel, meals, dorm-style accommodation and activities are all included.
If you’re new to Canteen, the first step is to call us on 1800 226 833 or leave us your details at canteen.org.au/refer. If you’re already using other Canteen services, you can contact your key worker or register your interest on Canteen Connect.
As soon as possible! Spots will fill up quickly and if you’re new to Canteen, we need to book some time with you and/or your family first.
Outcomes of Places You’ll Go
The purpose of Canteen’s Places You’ll Go program is to provide a safe space for young people to:
- connect with others who understand their cancer experience
- make new friends and have fun!
- understand more about issues commonly affecting young people after cancer and realise that they are not alone in facing those challenges
- reflect on and share their own experience of having cancer with other young people in similar situations
- learn coping strategies they can use after the program finishes
- increase resilience and wellbeing
